Kilmore Quay harbour with the Saltee Islands in the background
The Saltee islands lie 5 kilometres off the coast of South Wexford, near the fishing village of Kilmore Quay. The two islands, Great Saltee and Little Saltee, cover an area of 1.2 square kilometres, and with the exception of one family, are uninhabited. The islands are a protected habitat, and are home to over 200 species of bird including Puffins, Gannets, and Razorbills. The dramatic coastline, rugged seas, and unspoilt wil terrain of the islands are unique to the Irish coastline.

Saltee Ferry
The islands are accessed by the Saltee Ferry which runs day trips from Kilmore Quay harbour, and are a popular destination for photographers, bird watchers, and hill walkers.

Arriving back to Kilmore Quay Harbour
Hello. I am taking a holiday home in Kilmore Quay for a week during the summer. I would love to take the ferry to the Saltee Islands. My query is this…..is it allowed to bring your dogs with you on the ferry to the islands. I will have my two dogs with me. They would be on leads.
Thank you.
Hi Theresa,
I’m not a local, but the http://www.salteeislands.info/ website clearly states that no dogs are allowed on the island.
So I guess there’s no need for you to bring them on the ferry either.
Enjoy your trip!
Lisa
